Loneliness is a health and wellness concern for our nation, but military families are especially prone to the effects of isolation. The military lifestyle of frequent moves to new communities makes it more difficult to make deep connections or build support networks of friends and family. 

The impact of loneliness is so detrimental that it has been estimated to shorten a life span by 15 years. Transition out of active duty military life comes with its own special dose of loneliness. Military spouse loneliness when coupled with loss of community and identity can be hard to overcome. Not only are you moving once again, but this time you may be asking yourself, “Am I even really part of this military community still?”  

Those feelings of not belonging, having a home, or having a support network can be hard to come out of. So what do we do about it?

Meet our Guest

Richelle Futch, LICSW

Richelle is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) working in the mental health field for over 20 years. With extensive experience working with diverse and highly vulnerable populations.

Richelle is passionate about helping individuals identify and reduce stress and recover from trauma. In 2012 Richelle started working in her own private practice primarily serving highly suicidal individuals suffering with difficulties regulating their emotions and maintaining relationships.

As a Marine Corps veteran and special operations spouse, Richelle saw a need for the therapeutic methods she used within the community to help serve the active duty and veteran population to combat the high rate of suicide. Richelle founded ‘Her Ruck’ which specializes in supporting military-connected women to reduce their emotional load.
